Description

To provide an individualized program of instruction for children with severe/profound disabilities residing at the Children's Center Rehabilitation Hospital.  

 

Performance Responsibilities include:

 

General Information:

  1. Maintains Current Special Education Teacher Certification in the area of severe/profound disabilities.
  2. Maintains knowledge of current research and practice in educating children with disabilities and the laws and regulations governing that area.
  3. Timely, thoroughly, and accurately completes all required paperwork to support his/her student caseload/roster.
  4. Maintains and assures the confidentiality of the confidential records for students on his/her caseload/roster.
  5. Takes necessary steps to ensure:
    1. Timely completion of comprehensive initial evaluations and reevaluations.
    2. Timely scheduling of multidisciplinary and IEP team meetings with the proper persons in attendance.
    3. The development of appropriate IEPs for all students on his/her caseload/roster
    4. Timely reporting of IEP goal/objective achievement for each student on his/her caseload
    5. Compliance with all applicable procedural safeguards
    6. Full implementation of IEPs for all students on his/her caseload/roster
    7. That noncompliance by any School District employee or independent contractor with the requirements of state or federal law/regulations or School District policy governing special education issues is promptly brought to the attention of Bethany Public Schools Special Education Administrator.
  1. By the first school day of each new school year and as appropriate thereafter, reviews the confidential files for all students on his/her caseload.
  1. By the first school day of each new school year and upon each change in the schedule or IEP of a student on his/her caseload/roster, informs each regular education teacher, special education teacher, related service provider and other service provider who is responsible for implementation of such student’s IEP of (a) his or her specific responsibilities related to implementing the child’s IEP; and (b) the specific accommodations, modifications and supports that must be provided for the child in accordance with the IEP.
  1. Consults with and serves as a resource for all other service providers serving the children on his/her caseload/roster, as needed and as directed by the students’ IEPs.
  1. Maintains professional communications with parents, other school employees and independent contractors and third parties (DHS personnel, private service providers, etc.) involved with the children on his/her caseload/roster.
  1. Identifies, addresses and monitors all educational issues affecting the children on his/her caseload/roster, including but not limited to behavior, health, and communication.

Instruction:

  1. Maintains knowledge in area(s) of certification and registry training to ensure the delivery of appropriate educational services to the children on his/her caseload/roster. 

Miscellaneous:

  1. Follow all State and Federal Laws, Board of Education policies and the directives of the supervisor and Superintendent of Schools.
  2. Performs other duties assigned by the principal or Special Education Administrator.  The special education teacher must possess the physical and mental capacity to satisfy these performance responsibilities, with or without reasonable accommodations.
