- Assist teachers to provide an appropriate education and related services for early childhood students.
- Be informed and aware of medical conditions that may affect a student’s health, safety or performance. Be trained and ready to respond if problems arise.
- Work co-actively with students to teach self-help skills. Be prepared to assist with teaching students in a variety of activities including small group, whole group and individualized instruction.
- Disinfect and clean toys, equipment and other items in classroom.
- Assist students with daily classroom assignments; set up, operate, and put away instructional materials, instructional equipment, adaptive equipment and assist with the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
- Assist and supervise students in the library, art, music, physical education, lunch periods, assemblies, recreation/play periods, and field trips.
- Responsible for class management when the teacher is unavailable or out of the room.
- Supervise students before and after school, before and after class, escort and/or transport students, including students who use wheelchairs or other assistive devices from buses to rooms and from rooms to buses.
